AMERSFOOT, Netherlands, July 5, 2016 — Yokogawa has added three OTDR (optical time domain reflectometer) modules for its AQ7280 series of OTDRs, expanding the range’s applications.

The AQ728E measures at 1625 nm over live fibers and includes a filter to eliminate shorter wavelengths used for data transmission which could disturb OTDR testing. The AQ7283J module is for “water-peak” testing of optical fibers at 1383 nm, a wavelength absorbed by water ions contained in optical fibers as a result of the manufacturing process. The AQ7282G is designed for use during installation of fiber-to-the-home networks requiring measurement at 1490 nm. The module measures three wavelengths — 1310, 1490 and 1550 nm — using only a single port.
