The Samtec 56-Gbps PAM4/channel FireFly onboard optical engine from II-VI Inc. features an embedded high-speed, vertical-cavity, surface-emitting laser within the system’s architecture.

The demonstration platform showcases low-latency, high-performance, onboard optical engines transmitting at 56 Gbps PAM4/channel. The FireFly Micro Flyover System copper and optical options offer a direct connection into the ASIC/FPGA package, bypassing the printed circuit board for improved density and performance. Firefly solutions are compatible with new-generation field-programmable gate arrays that support 56-Gbps PAM4 transceivers.
