SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 20, 2012 — New Focus, a Newport Corp. brand, has announced the Model 8742 open-loop picomotor controller/driver with four channels. The compact single-box design with an integrated driver and controller drives New Focus open-loop picomotor products. It can be computer-controlled with plug-and-play ease via the USB 2.0 and the 10/100 Ethernet interfaces using Newport’s Motion Control Language (NMCL) command set.

Features include picomotor autodetection technology, an embedded dynamic HTTP server, and connectivity that is supported by LabView and Windows. The intuitive graphical user interface Windows application includes a device autodiscovery component. The controller/driver is being offered as a stand-alone unit or as a four-axis kit that includes all necessary cables and accessories. The kit is bundled with two ClearEdge picomotor mounts for quick and easy start.

Each controller/driver can control one of four four-pin RJ-22 single-output ports for use with any single-channel picomotor actuator at any given time. Other accessories include a multiaxis adapter that can be used to connect the four-pin RJ-22 output ports to New Focus picomotor products with six-pin RJ-11 connectors.

The device is CE- and RoHS-compliant.
