Emcore Corp. has announced laser diode and photodiode optical chips for 2.5- to 12.5-Gb/s telecommunications and data applications.

Data transmission is supported at 1310- and 1550-nm wavelengths. The G1033 series of laser chips include gigabit-capable passive optical network (GPON) 2.5-Gb/s distributed feedback devices with 1310- and 1550-nm operating wavelength options. They are designed to perform as the laser source for uncooled digital applications.

Photodiode chips include a 2.5-Gb/s avalanche photodiode (APD) as well as 10-Gb/s top- and bottom-illuminated APDs. The 2.5-Gb/s APD is designed to target GPON optical line terminal and optical networking unit applications. The 10-Gb/s APD is designed for next-generation PON and other digital applications.
