Submillimeter optical mirrors as small as 0.2 mm in diameter are now available from Bern Optics Inc. They can be custom engineered, ground and polished in a variety of standard or custom shapes to micron tolerances. The microscopic elements, some as small as a grain of salt, can be produced as first or second surface reflectors, with curved or plano surfaces. To meet specific requirements of intended applications, custom-designed dielectric, metallic or hybrid coatings can be applied to the mirrors. They are suitable for use in a variety of analytical instrumentation, as well as in endoscopic and other minimally invasive surgical devices.
