SAN DIEGO, March 2, 2016 — Optical ProfilerFilmetrics Inc. has announced the Profilm3D low-cost optical profiler, increasing the accessibility of profilometry equipment.

The device uses vertical scanning interferometry and phase-shifting interferometry to measure 3D surfaces with high accuracy. It can also measure surface features and roughness with subnanometer resolution.

Optical profilers are used to image manufactured surface features and investigate wear, fit, leaks, vibration and friction. Applications include use in the semiconductor, solar cell, optics, automotive and biomedical industries.
