MARTINSRIED, Germany, Jan. 23, 2023 —
The XM-ORC series of optical reference cavities with crystalline mirrors from Menlo Systems GmbH and Thorlabs Inc. is stable at the zero-crossing of the thermal expansion coefficient.
The cavities are comprised of a 12.1-cm long cylindrical ultralow expansion glass spacer incorporating cavity mirrors with high-reflectivity crystalline coatings on fused silica substrates, all housed in a stainless-steel vacuum chamber. They feature finesse values of either >300,000 for operation at 1550 or 1397 nm or >100,000 for operation at 1064 nm. Other wavelengths are available upon request. Applications include high-resolution spectroscopy, quantum computing, optical clocks, cooling and trapping of atoms and ions, and low-noise microwave generation.
