WALLDORF, Germany, June 29, 2016 — Molex LLC has announced the Polymicro Technologies optical test bench to measure and validate optical fibers used in astronomy applications.

The optical fiber measurement system measures focal ratio degradation in specific samples to determine whether the fibers are appropriate for astronomy applications. Designers are able to quantify focal ratio degradation and minimize its impact prior to developing key components.

By pretesting optical fibers, the development of new spectrographs can be can become quicker and more economical.
