TracePro 7.0, the new optomechanical design software unveiled by Lambda Research Corp., uses multithreading algorithms to increase ray tracing speeds by up to 10 times compared with the earlier 6.0 version. The updated software, which is compatible with Intel and AMD multicore central processing units, also features a new interactive optimizer, a rearrangeable system tree, new RepTile geometries and irradiance options. Simulations done on a dual-quad core computer show increased speeds when simulating LED, lighting, display, biomedical and aerospace systems. The new interactive optimizer is configured for nonsequential design on LED and illumination systems. It features a sketch utility for quick design entry, interactive ray trace for design verification, and a downhill simplex optimizer with interactive entry of target specifications.
