Hamamatsu Corp. has unveiled a four-element GaAs photodiode array for high-speed data links and other optical communications applications. The G8921-01 delivers a response rate of 2.5 Gb/s per channel and a total response rate of 10 Gb/s generated at a low bias voltage of VR = 2 V. Other specifications include typical dark current of 2 pA, typical terminal capacitance of 0.35 pF, spectral response range of 470 to 870 nm and peak sensitivity of 0.5 A/W at 850 nm. The device has an active area of φ 0.06 mm per channel with an element pitch of 250 µm.
