Silicon NPN phototransistors from Optek Technology Inc. have integrated base-emitter resistors for low-current roll-off, resulting in a sharp turn-on characteristic in low-contrast applications. The phototransistor can ignore low-level ambient lighting and detect materials that are semitransparent to infrared light in interruptive applications. The OP793 has a 130° acceptance angle, while the OP798 has an acceptance angle of 25°. A plastic TO-18 package is used for both devices.
