StellarNet Inc. and Kigre Inc. have introduced the Porta-LIBS-2000 portable element analyzer for identifying compounds in biological, chemical, forensic and other analyses. The device integrates Stellar-Net's spectrometers with Kigre's 4-ns pulsed Nd:YAG near-IR laser, which delivers 6 mW to create a plasma. Measuring 18 × 14 × 7 in., it operates with two high-resolution spectrometers via a 12-V adapter or battery. It includes SpectraWiz software that provides element identification from a spectral database for qualitative measurement. Customizable programs for Excel + VBA and LabView also are available.
