Newport.jpgNewport Corp. has unveiled the 842-PE handheld optical power and energy meter, an upgraded version of its 841-PE. It features a newly designed enclosure, a 100 percent larger display, power measurements of 5 pW to 10 kW, energy measurements of 1 μJ to 20 kJ, and compatibility with the company’s photodiode, thermopile and pyroelectric detectors. With a data transfer rate that is 20 times faster than the earlier model, it supports CW, pulsed and root mean square measurement modes. It also supports a wide range of external interfaces, including USB, RS-232 and analog out. The Microsoft Windows CE software offers a graphical user interface and pull-down menus for peaking, statistics, analog and digital filters, and for math and plotting functions. The instrument is compliant with the Conformité Européenne and RoHS directives.
