Princeton Optronics Inc. has released the PR-HPIL-4800-W808, an 808-nm high-power illuminator that uses multiple vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) arrays connected in series to deliver a power output of 4800 W.

The power supply is triggered by the camera for some applications, and a diffuser is attached to the VCSEL arrays to increase the beam divergence if needed.

Modules also are available for CW, quasi-CW or pulsed illumination and at wavelengths including 830, 976, 1064 and 680 nm (red). Applications include street illumination, fast photography (speeding bullets, blast fragments) and 3-D imaging.
