TORRANCE, Calif., October 21 -– Pulse Research Lab Inc. (PRL), a provider of signal buffering and translation modules for digital design, integration and testing, has launched the PRL 425 series universal differential receivers and line drivers. These compact, self-contained buffer pods are long-line drivers that can receive any differential signal with a minimum amplitude of 100 mV and a common-mode range between -2.4 V to 4 V. The differential TTL (transistor-transistor logic) and RS-422 outputs can run up to 300 MHz, and the NECL (negative emitter coupled logic) outputs up to 1.8 GHz. The PRL-425 series can translate and/or buffer signals from satellite receivers, optical transceivers, military equipment and telecommunications equipment. The PRL-425 series of multipurpose modules is available with triax I/O (input/output) connectors or differential SMA inputs and floating 100-ohm differential input impedance, suitable for receiving differential LVDS, LVPECL, LVTTL/CMOS, NECL, PECL, RS-422 or TTL signals.
PRL’s three individual models offer TTL, NECL or RS-422 outputs, respectively. The PRL 425T has 50-ohm back-terminated TTL outputs that can drive long lines with or without 50-ohm terminations. With 50-ohm load terminations, the TTL outputs can drive 100 ft of 50-ohm cables at clock rates greater than 100 MHz. The NECL outputs of the PRL-425N can drive 50-ohm loads terminated into –2V or AC-coupled 50-ohm loads up to 1.8 GHz. The TTL and NECL outputs are SMA and can be used differentially or single-ended. The outputs of the PRL-425RS will drive a standard RS-422 differential input up to 600 MHz, and are also available with SMA or triax I/O connectors.

According to the company, the PRL-425 universal differential receiver is ideal for line-driver applications where a single-function instrument pod is needed to receive and/or transmit differential signals over long distances. PRL’s range of line drivers and level translator products, paired with the PRL-425 series, enables the translation, distribution and transmission of mixed logic signals commonly required in system integration, military/aerospace and test applications.

Each unit includes a 120/220 VAC adapter and SMA or triax signal connectors for ready-to-use convenience on the bench, in a system, or in OEM applications. The compact (1.3 in. x 2.9 in. x 3.9 in.) extruded aluminum housing is suitable for mounting with the optional brackets and several units can share a single AC adapter using PRL voltage distribution modules.
