SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 22, 2012 — Coherent Inc. has introduced a higher power Paladin laser designed for high-throughput direct imaging and other advanced microelectronics applications.
The Paladin Advanced 355 24000 is a mode-locked, diode-pumped solid-state laser that delivers >24 W (at 80 MHz) of output power at 355 nm. It offers a high-quality TEM00 beam with M² <1.2, beam pointing stability of <20 μrad/°C, long-term power stability of <±2% and low noise of <1% rms from 10 Hz to 2 MHz.
The laser direct imaging technique enables production of multilayer printed circuit boards without the complexity and registration issues involved in using traditional film-based artwork. The technology has become indispensable as microelectronic devices decrease in size. The new laser enables increased throughput in the digital patterning of the any-layer high-density interconnect printed circuit boards used in the fabrication of these miniaturized devices, such as smartphones and tablet PCs.
The laser also serves other applications in microelectronics fabrication, such as flat panel display manufacturing, solar cell production and bioinstrumentation.
