Vision Research, a business unit of the Materials Analysis Div. of Ametek Inc., has introduced two Phantom v-Series cameras. The Phantom v1210 and v1610 1-megapixel digital high-speed instruments feature high-definition and wide-screen 1280 × 800-pixel CMOS sensors. The Phantom v1610 acquires more than 16,000 fps at full resolution and up to 1 million fps at reduced resolution.

Capturing high-resolution images at ultrahigh speeds, the cameras benefit scientists, researchers and engineers who need to see phenomena invisible to the human eye.

The cameras are based on proprietary sensors that offer 28-μm pixels that produce high sensitivity when shooting in low light.

The v1210 can be configured with 12, 24 or 48 GB of memory, and the v1610, with 24 or 96 GB. The memory can be segmented into as many as 63 partitions and allows continuous shooting of back-to-back shots without the need for constant downloading. The cameras offer 12-bit pixel depth as standard.

Both cameras are supplied with the company’s CineMag interface, which allows users to save a high-speed shot from camera memory to nonvolatile storage in a matter of seconds. With a CineMag mounted on the camera, users can continue to conduct tests and experiments without having to perform the time-consuming task of downloading large amounts of data over Ethernet.

Built-in on-camera controls allow most camera settings to be set or changed with the turn of a knob, eliminating the need for connection to a PC or laptop.

The connections are located on the back panel. These include time code, dual power inputs, HD-SDI, global positioning system input, camera synchronization and image-based auto trigger.

Features include a 10-Gb Ethernet port, an internal mechanical shutter, frame synchronization to an internal or external clock, a component viewfinder port and a Nikon F-mount lens connection, with Canon EOS and PL mounts, and C-mounts also available.
