Photodiode Arrays with Signal Processing Chip
Bridgewater, NJ - Hamamatsu Corporation introduces the S8865 series of silicon (Si) photodiode arrays designed with a signal processing circuit chip that incorporates a timing generator, shift register, charge amplifier array, clamp circuit, and hold circuit. The integration of the chip into the array dramatically simplifies design configuration and improves performance, making the S8865 series well suited for long line sensor applications, and X-ray detection by simply adding a scintillator on the photodiode. By designing multiple arrays together linearly, large detection areas can be achieved.
Two models are available in the S8865 series, both of which cover the 200 nm ~ 1000 nm spectral response range and achieve peak sensitivity at 720 nm. The S8865-64 is a 64-channel array with a 0.8 mm element pitch. At high gain, it has typical dark current of 0.2 mV, typical photo sensitivity of 4400 V/lx·s, and typical noise of 1 mVrms. Designed with a 128-channel array with a 0.4 mm element pitch, the S8865-128 has typical dark current of 0.1 mV, typical photo sensitivity of 1500 V/lx·s, and typical noise of 1 mVrms.
Both models achieve such high performance because of their design. The low dark current is achieved because the S8865 series has zero-bias photodiode operation, and the integrated clamp circuit allows for the low noise and wide dynamic range to be achieved. Additionally, by integrating the timing generator into the Si photodiode array, the S8865 can be operated at two different pulse timings.
The S8865 series requires only a 5 V power supply and the Si photodiode arrays can deliver a sequential readout with a shift register. Both arrays can be designed with a phosphor screen affixed to the active area for X-ray detection applications.
With a starting price of $337.00 for the S8865-64 and $371.00 for the S8865-128, the Si photodiode arrays can be delivered in 4 to 6 weeks ARO.
