Photonic Device Design PlatformVersion 2.5 of the VPIdeviceDesigner software from VPIphotonics GmbH provides Python-driven design framework for photonic devices.

The easy-to-use photonic device design platform combines a set of full-vectorial finite-difference mode solvers with 2D and 3D frequency-domain beam propagation and eigenmode expansion solvers. Its object-oriented Python interface and focus on results analysis allow for intuitive simulation setups. Calculated modes and electromagnetic fields can be saved to and loaded from the filesystem, eliminating the need for time-consuming recalculation of previously computed results. It accounts for back reflections, accurate modeling of high-index contrast devices, and fast optimization of device lengths. Applications include calculating the reflection and transmission spectra of Bragg gratings, along with optimizing MMI couplers and long polarization mode converters.
