MEYLAN, France, Feb. 16, 2011 — The new 150-kHz PicoFlash 355-nm ultraviolet laser from Teem Photonics SA is designed for use in eye surgery and based on a master oscillator fiber amplifier (MOFA) architecture that enables users to vary the pulse energy or peak power and the repetition rate, independently of each other, while the pulse width remains constant.
Pulse repetition frequency is up to 150 kHz, pulse width is 750 ps, and the laser produces 6 µJ/pulse, typical, as well as low heat dissipation. It delivers high throughput and high speed and can be used also for efficient plasma generation and transparent materials processing.
The more powerful PicoSpark produces pulses with energies of hundreds of microjoules at repetition rates of 40 kHz, providing average powers of several watts. Available at 1064 and 532 nm, the MOFA laser is housed in a compact turnkey package and requires only 350 W from a standard wall plug.
The company also offers the µFab3D three-dimensional microfabrication machine that is adaptable to most microscope systems. It delivers 200-nm lateral resolution with a high-efficiency 532-nm microchip laser source to build micro-objects in polymer, proteins or noble metals, with confocal microscopy resolution.
It uses hundreds of picosecond pulses which, the company says, are better suited than Ti:sapphire femtosecond emission for two-photon polymerization, resulting in higher quantum efficiency and faster, cleaner results. The system is compact, reliable and cost-effective.
