AUBURN, Mass., June 2, 2016 — PiezomotorsPhysik Instrumente GmbH & Co. KG has announced the U-521 ultrasonic piezomotors driven by ceramic motors.

The devices are small and provide motion with high resolution, as well as an extremely wide dynamic range from μm/s to mm/s. Once the motor reaches a target position, the self-locking capability acts like a ceramic brake and locks the platform into place, providing long-term stability with no driving current or heat generation. An integrated optical linear encoder provides position feedback with 100-nm resolution.

Applications include automatic micromanipulation, sample positioning, and optical component adjusting.
