WATERLOO, Ontario, Dec. 17, 2010 — Dalsa Corp. has introduced the Piranha3 CMOS line-scan camera. The high-speed model delivers 16-k resolution with a 3.5-µm pixel size and a 70-kHz line rate for ultrafast 1146-megapixel per second throughput. The high-speed interface achieves throughput beyond that of Camera Link.

With on-chip analog-to-digital conversion and correlated double sampling, the extended cable camera delivers low noise and a high dynamic range. It is suited for the inspection of large-area flat panel displays and printed circuit boards, along with document scanning and other high-throughput applications. It measures 150 × 80 × 77 mm.

To deliver its full bandwidth, it uses the new HSLink machine vision connectivity interface that takes the key strengths of Camera Link, adds new features and functions, and combines them with scalable bandwidth in 300-MB/s steps from 300 to 6000 MB/s, while using globally available off-the-shelf components.

The camera is supported by the proprietary Xcelera-HS PX8 frame grabber that delivers an image acquisition bandwidth of 1.8 GB/s and a host transfer bandwidth of 2 GB/s over multiple-lane PCI Express implementations.

All Piranha cameras are supported by the company's Sapera vision software. This core development platform includes more than 400 image processing primitive and industrial strength image analysis tools such as pattern finding, 1- and 2-D bar code and optical character recognition tools for part identification and detection, a color processing tool, separation and measurement applications, a blob analysis tool and an inspection metrology tool for real-world dimensional measurements.

Camera configuration parameters that are all software controllable, including flat field correction, exposure control, and gain and offset control.
