NEWARK, Del., Feb. 13, 2013 — B&W Tek Inc. has announced the i-Raman Plus portable Raman spectrometer powered by proprietary smart spectrometer technology.

It uses a back-thinned CCD detector with deep thermoelectric cooling and a high dynamic range to deliver an improved signal-to-noise ratio for up to 30 min of integration time, making it possible to measure weak Raman signals. It features wide spectral coverage and high resolution, with configurations measuring out to 4000 cm−1, enabling measurement of CH stretching bands around 3100 cm−1. The system’s small footprint, lightweight design and low power consumption provide research-grade Raman capability anywhere.

Onboard processing includes averaging, smoothing and dark compensation.

Applications include field analysis such as in vivo studies of ancient art and archaeology, environmental studies, and identification of low-dose adulterations in counterfeit products.

The device is supplied standard with a fiber optic probe, a probe holder with an X-Y-Z positioning stage, a cuvette adapter for measuring liquid samples, and proprietary BWIQ multivariate analysis software.
