An all-solid-state high-power pulse modulator for research and small production applications that can be readily configured to user requirements is available from Diversified Technologies Inc.

The PowerMod pulse modulator delivers up to 10 MW of peak pulses at voltages from 1 to 50 kV, with currents from 1 to 150 A, and is easy to operate. Capable of running short microsecond pulses at 10 KHz to full DC, it uses solid-state switch modules that are readily configured by the company to meet specific customer requirements.

Providing full internal self-protection against overvoltage and overcurrent conditions, the pulse modulator exhibits <1-µs rise and fall times into a resistive load, a 1- to 100-µs nominal pulse width, and up to 30-kHz nominal pulse frequency, depending upon the power level. Packaged in a 74 × 24 × 36-in. cabinet, these solid-state switches are air-cooled.
