ROCHESTER, N.Y., April 1, 2013 — Applied Image Inc. has released precision glass ball lenses for applications including fiber optic couplers, laser focus lens devices, LED lighting collectors, microscopy and endoscopy, and sensors.

Ball lenses can focus or collimate light and are mechanically simple to incorporate into complex optical systems such as endoscopes or bar-code scanners.

They can be used as condenser lenses or as preforms for sphere and asphere compression molding applications, or for creating small planoconvex lenses through conventional machining.

The lenses are custom-manufactured to high tolerances using a specific glass material required for each application in sizes ranging from 1 to 35 mm in diameter.
