Raytek Corp. has unveiled the ThermoView Pi20 process imager and intuitive DataTemp Pi (DTPi) software. Designed for automated monitoring and control of continuous or stationary targets, the fixed-mounted process imager provides a real-time process view of thermal images, allowing plant operators to shorten process startup times and lower production line changeover costs.

Together, the camera and software offer multipoint control flexibility corresponding to areas of interest on the product with independent alarm settings, reducing heating costs by applying heat to only the areas that need it. Users can tell immediately when a product changeover is made if their process is under control. Problems that show up as temperature anomalies are instantly detected, and image file and area-of-interest archiving based on alarm conditions capture data showing when the condition occurred.

The camera and software are designed for use in rugged industrial settings. During solar module testing, the thermal imaging system enables early detection of defective solar cells and allows manufacturers to improve productivity and energy generation from solar modules. In the tobacco industry, the system helps to reduce waste from improperly dried tobacco and prevent fires caused by smoldering tobacco stored in bunkers.

IP54-rated, the camera is offered in two temperature ranges: -40 to 500 °C and 200 to 2000 °C. For each, two lens options are available: 21.7° × 16° or 30° × 22°. The camera provides easy networking over long distances using a standard Ethernet interface that transmits at up to 30 fps. Additional fiber optic Ethernet accessories enable Ethernet cable runs beyond 90 m, eliminating the need to place the PC in a hazardous area.

The camera interfaces easily to the software for real-time viewing, archiving and playback of both on- and off-line thermal images. DTPi supports up to 16 cameras simultaneously in a single software package, and each camera can have up to 192 process alarms to be assigned as relay outputs. Users can minimize the system footprint on the factory floor and control room with a single PC installation. The software can be set up and operational within minutes, and it interfaces to remote input/output modules that can be employed as triggering inputs, allowing for file saving.

Accessories include an IP65 (NEMA 4)-rated protective enclosure with integrated cooling and air purge options; a junction box to house input/output module accessories and a DIN rail industrial power supply. The camera is also available with fiber optic Ethernet cable and converters for extended cable runs, as well as a mounting bracket allowing easy base- and tripod-mounting.
