Profile Sensor for High-speed Position and Moving Object Detection
Bridgewater, NJ - Hamamatsu Corporation introduces the S9132 profile sensor that provides numerous advantages over conventional CMOS area image sensors and two-dimensional Position Sensitive Detectors (PSDs) in detection applications. Featuring improved output linearity, the ability to detect multiple light spots, and simplified external circuitry, the S9132 is designed for inspection equipment, medical measurement devices, and virtually any other light spot position detection or moving object detection application.
The S9132 acquires a projection profile in the X and Y axes to produce high-speed position and moving object detection, even from very small amounts of information compared to conventional area image sensors. It has a 1.9968x1.9968 mm active area with a 256x256 pixel array. Images can be produced as quickly as 1.2 ms/ch when the S9132 is in 8-bit mode, or 2.4 ms/ch when it is in 10-bit mode. Covering a spectral response range of 350 nm ~ 1150 nm, the S9132 achieves peak sensitivity of 40 V/nJ (high gain) or 8 V/nJ (low gain) at 780 nm.
A timing generator, bias voltage generator, and the 10-bit/8-bit switchable ADC are all integrated on a single chip to dramatically simplify operation via an external driver circuit and external signal processing circuit. The design also helps keep power consumption low, as the S9132 requires only 5 V. It is designed with a 20-pin LCC package that measures only 7.6 x 7.6 mm.
The S9132 is priced at $11.93 in large quantities, and delivery is 4 to 5 weeks for samples.
