Pyrocam IV Pyroelectric Laser Beam Profiling Camera

NORTH LOGAN, Utah, Feb. 20, 2013 — Ophir Photonics has announced the Pyrocam IV laser beam profiling camera, which features a 320 × 320-pixel pyroelectric array that can profile beams up to 25 mm without the need for reduction optics. The new electronics control design includes an interface to Gigabit Ethernet cameras for high-speed applications. The camera measures pulsed and continuous-wave lasers from 13 to 355 nm and 1.06 to >3000 µm. A focal plane chopper is included for CW beams and thermal imaging. A compact housing provides easy access to the array and chopper.

The Pyrocam IV ensures alignment and proper operation of CO2 and telecom NIR lasers, as well as other infrared sources out to the far-IR terahertz range. A 14-bit analog-to-digital converter provides reliable measurement and analysis of large and low-level signals in the wings of the laser beam. A signal-to-noise ratio of 1000:1 means that beams of 30 mW/cm2 are easily visible. The patented Ultracal baseline algorithm allows multiple frames to be summed; summing 256 frames enables viewing of beams as low as 1 to 2 mW/cm2.

The camera works with the proprietary BeamGage laser beam analysis software. It includes all the algorithms and calculations needed to make accurate ISO-approved measurements. The software provides 2- and 3-D viewing, advanced image processing features, NIST-traceable power measurements, and support for English, Japanese, Chinese and German.
