QCL Driver

For absorption spectroscopy using quantum cascade lasers (QCLs), ILX Lightwave Corp. has introduced the LDP-3832 pulsed quantum cascade laser driver that provides peak current up to 5 A with a compliance voltage of up to 20 V and adjustable pulse widths from 10 ns to 1 μs, with adjustable duty cycles up to 5%. It includes a precision 500-mA DC current source with a modulation bandwidth >10 kHz for biasing the laser. Careful attention to the design ensures highly repeatable pulse-to-pulse amplitude and pulse width control with fast rise/fall times of <5 ns and overshoot of less than 5%. Laser protection features include redundant hardware and firm-ware current limits, transient protection, floating outputs and safety interlocks. Integrated current and voltage monitors allow precise pulse waveform monitoring.
