Optek Technology Inc. has introduced a reflective sensor that operates at a distance of ±0.5 in. compared with a maximum distance of 0.125 in. for typical sensors. The OPB715 sensor, based on Optek's Photologic technology, is characterized for use with paper, but also can detect reflective objects at longer distances. It functions through a GaAlAs LED that is current-limited for design convenience. The panel-mount plastic housing protects against stray light and is terminated with 18-in. wire leads. It can be customized to include lenses, apertures, filters or connectors.
