A computer-controlled RGB LED illuminator for transmitted light in upright microscopes is offered by Tofra Inc. The unit provides bright, uniform and diffuse light for near-Koehler illumination, and red, green and blue colors can be switched on and off alone or in combination in less than 1 ms. The device mounts on the microscope substage condenser; has no moving or serviceable parts; creates no vibration, noise or heat; and does not add any components in the imaging path of the microscope. Monochrome digital camera color images are possible with full noninterpolated color. Focus position can be adjusted for each color to improve image quality.
