Lumex has launched its surface-mounted QuasarBrite 0404 RGB LEDs
in a compact package measuring 1 x 1 x 0.25 mm. Suitable for use in multicolor LED
indicator applications in restricted spaces, they combine good visual performance
and low energy requirements. The optimized, fully automated production process that
is used to produce the LEDs generates up to 25% cost savings, compared with alternative
technologies, according to the company. Applications include communications equipment;
personal electronics (cell phone indicators, backlights for display screens and
keypads); portable medical devices (pulse oximeters, defibrillators, glucometers);
and backlighting for LCDs. The LEDs produce bright colors and a 120° viewing
angle. Their low energy consumption simplifies heat dissipation.
