RGB Micro-modules with normal or superluminescent laser diodes have been announced by EXALOS GmbH, enabling the development of augmented and mixed reality smart glasses designs based upon displays using laser beam scanning architectures.
The RGB micro-modules can accommodate three laser diode chips, or a hybrid design of the diode chips, in an ultra-compact package with a footprint of 4.40 × 4.15 mm and a height of 2.9 mm, with a total volume of 0.053 cm3 and weight of <0.3 g. The semiconductor light sources are integrated on a free-space, micro-optical bench together with micro lenses and dichroic mirrors to deliver a collimated and coaxial RGB output.
The devices are designed for R&D applications and offered with a flex-printed circuit board cable for electrical connectivity.
