FITCHBURG, Mass., Dec. 16, 2010 — To further enhance the ability to detect explosives and other chemical threats, Headwall Photonics Inc. has announced the availability of new models of the Raman Explorer platform for use in the UV spectral region.
Available for laser excitation as low as 248 nm, the Raman Explorer extends the current analytical ability of customers in the defense and homeland security sectors through the availability of high UV spectral performance coupled with a small form factor for field-based deployment.
The sensor enables UV analysis in stand-off detection and in-line processing applications. For commercial applications, particularly in-line process analysis in areas such as food quality, pharmaceutical manufacturing and semiconductor processing, the UV Raman Explorer enables the use of new techniques such as Raman line-scan analysis and spatially offset Raman spectroscopy.
The platform is a high-performance Raman imaging instrument designed for precision measurements and materials identification. Built for reliability and designed for mineral exploration on Mars, the instrument has also been deployed to the depths of the ocean and is designed for imaging in harsh environments. It is a reflective, dispersive instrument and can be configured as a multichannel spectrometer. It is available with a variety of laser excitation wavelengths: 248, 785, 532, 532/685 for dual laser excitation, 830 and 1064 nm.
