B&W Tek Inc. has launched the NanoRam, a handheld instrument for materials identification and verification within good manufacturing practices-compliant facilities. The Raman spectrometer and integrated computing system are based on an open systems architecture that can support a variety of applications. Designed for nonspecialists, the device enables pharmaceutical customers to deploy instruments in volume among different sites and to efficiently analyze active pharmaceutical ingredients, excipients and drug products as part of a manufacturing and quality process. It allows rapid development of standardized and validated methods to facilitate 100% inspection for purity and quality, as mandated by government regulators within guidelines provided by US and international pharmacopeia. Raman spectral libraries are available for pharmaceutical materials, and new spectra can be generated and added to existing libraries.
