B&W Tek Inc. has unveiled the MiniRam II, a portable Raman spectrometer. It weighs only ~6.4 lb, it is battery operated, and it has a 10 cm–1 FWHM spectral resolution through the Raman shift range of 175 to 3100 cm–1. It includes both a thermoelectrically cooled 2048-pixel CCD and an integrated, stabilized 785-nm excitation laser with a lifetime >10,000 h and >300 mW power output. With the included fiber-coupled sampling probe, users can collect Raman spectra of solids or liquids at the scene. Several options are available, including an integrated cuvette-based sampling system as well as 473-, 488- and 532-nm lasers.
