B&W Tek Inc. has released the HandTop MiniRam,
a portable device based on the MiniRam Raman spectrometer system with an added PDA-size
computer. The computer uses the Microsoft Windows XP operating system and enables
programs such as Thermo Electron Corp.’s Grams/AI, the Unscrambler by Camo
Technologies Inc. and others to be run outside of the laboratory. The device has
a 785-nm excitation laser at 300 mW that provides Raman shift spectra from 175 to
300 cm—1 for solids and liquids.
