A new transverse-mode red laser diode from Oclaro Inc. is suited for biomedical as well as entertainment applications.

The AlGaInP HL63193MG laser offers output power of 700 mW at 638 nm, has an operating temperature up to 40 °C and typical operating voltage of 2.2 V. The beam divergence parallel to the junction is 9°; perpendicular to the junction it is 35°.

The diode can be used for inspection and measurement of biomedical technology, and as a light source for optical equipment, laser TV, video projection and laser shows.
