The back-thinned structure produces >90% quantum efficiency, two or more times higher than a traditional front-illuminated CCD, the company says, with maximum sensitivity at 660 nm. To detect weak signals, the sensors have low noise in addition to high sensitivity. Typical readout noise is 4 e- rms, reduced by the built-in one-stage thermoelectric cooler.
