The back-thinned CCD97 scientific image sensor has been released by e2v technologies ltd. Available in a 512 X> 512-frame-transfer format, it incorporates an electron multiplication output amplifier circuit that operates with read noise of <1 photoelectron at pixel rates of >11 MHz. The device is part of the company's L3Vision range of products, combining their low read noise with the quantum efficiency performance of back-thinning to deliver sensitive low-light imaging ability.
