LUTTERWORTH, England, Nov. 2, 2010 — The Rio Grande high-power, single-frequency laser module is now available from AMS Technologies. It combines Rio’s high-performance external cavity laser (ECL) with a high-performance low-noise EDFA.

Developed to provide end users with robust solutions for harsh environments in easy-to-use form factors, it is suitable for usage in acoustic and interferometric sensing, lidar, high-resolution metrology, and RF and microwave photonics applications.

The laser module provides 0.1 to 1 W of optical power from 1530 to 1565 nm. It ensures reduced sensitivity to mechanical and acoustic vibrations, and can withstand harsh environment condition while preserving low power consumption and system heat dissipation.

It is based on Rio’s proprietary planar technology and consists of a gain chip and a planar lightwave circuit, including waveguide with Bragg grating, forming a laser cavity with significant advantages. It features very narrow spectral linewidth, low phase and frequency noise, low RIN and high stability and reliability.
