GIRONA, Spain, Oct. 18, 2011 — The enhanced 3D Shape Analysis Library (SAL3D) from Aqsense SL is a standard software library for range maps and cloud-of-points acquisition and processing, fully oriented to 3-D machine vision applications such as quality assurance, surface inspection, objects detection, reverse engineering and volume measuring.

The angular tool enables easy calibration for rotating camera-laser systems, providing a way to integrate vision systems on robotic arms or movement arrangements. It can be further improved with the new lens distortion add-on for metric and angular metric calibration, which corrects the distortion introduced by the camera’s lens.

The area tool module computes the volume of a scanned object, and the geometric tool provides functions such as angle measurement and plane fitting, enabling creation of planar projections of a cloud of points (Z-map) for planes not aligned with the acquisition system.

The integrator tool enables creation of a single mesh from multiple cloud-of-points and is useful for reverse engineering applications.

SAL3D has been improved not only in functionality but also in ease of use to shorten project development times.

The new tools have been enhanced with help documentation and are now easily compiled, thanks to the supplied WXWidgets library. New examples that demonstrate how to combine SAL3D with other libraries (MIL, Halcon and OpenCV) have been added.

The new viewer module provides standard 3-D viewers that can be used during development and debugging for easily showing clouds of points, range maps or Z-maps at any specific point.

Other features include new modules to take advantage of multicore processors; drivers for more frame grabbers and USB cameras; and support for more file formats.

Three versions are available: a trial version, with no need for a dongle, for 32-bit Windows XP computers; and full 32- and 64-bit versions that are compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

A new release policy ensures that SAL3D latest versions will be available for download from the company’s website.
