SCIENTIFIC IMAGING The 850 series scientific imaging cameras have been announced by Spectral Instruments Inc. The low-noise CCD-based cameras are thermoelectrically cooled and have a lifetime vacuum seal that requires no maintenance. They offer a dynamic range of 60,000:1 and maintain a noise floor of three electrons. Multistage thermoelectric coolers regulate large-area CCDs to a temperature of –90 °C. Several configuration options are available, using various scientific CCDs that can be read simultaneously through one, two or four output ports. A high-precision 16-bit digitizer provides readout speeds from 100 kHz to 1 MHz.
