BANNOCKBURN, Ill., July 11, 2011 — The SCN400 F manufactured by Leica Microsystems Inc. is an all-in-one digital pathology slide scanner for high-end bright-field and fluorescence applications.

It combines good bright-field scanning and multichannel fluorescence imaging on a single platform. With its specially designed optical system, scanning method and Z-stack functionality, it captures sharp images.
Users can bring fluorescence out of the darkroom and scan slides with multiple fluorescent labels quickly and efficiently. They can capture whole slide scans and review crisp fluorescent images from their computers.
Rapid switching between bright-field and fluorescence illumination methods facilitates scanning of multiple sample types and enhances daily work flow. The scanner captures fluorescence samples with multiple markers through a combination of tri-band cubes and excitation filters, producing sharp multichannel images. It delivers high-quality fluorescence imaging and optimal dye separation.
Users can easily and rapidly review their fluorescent slides online through the digital image hub web viewer. Separate channels can be turned on and off with the click of a button, enabling the user to examine each marker individually. Slide linking and side-by-side review enable rapid comparison between serial sections of bright-field and fluorescent samples.
Although fluorescent staining techniques facilitate the examination of multiple markers on a single sample, the ability to preserve these slides often is prevented by photobleaching and loss of fluorescence signal. The SCN400 F provides a platform for creating a digital archive of fluorescent samples with no loss of image quality over time, enabling the user to view images long after the slide has faded away.
