SFH 47165 Infrared LED
Osram Opto Semiconductors GmbHRequest Info
MUNICH, April 15, 2013 — Osram Opto Semiconductors has introduced the Oslon black SFH 4716S, an infrared LED with a beam angle of 150° and an illumination range of a few meters. It is suitable for gesture detection systems linked to computer games, for optical safety systems in the automotive sector, and for surveillance and monitoring systems that operate with additional infrared illumination.
The device achieves an optical output of 1030 mW at an operating current of 1 A, with ~35 percent efficiency. The increased performance is based on stack technology that provides each chip with two emission centers, doubling its output. A radiant intensity of up to 225 mW/sr indicates the light output within a solid-angle segment and defines the intensity of the light beam.
It emits light at the 850-nm wavelength, illuminating the relevant area so that a camera sensor can detect movement that controls a computer or that enters text, even if the hand is a few centimeters away from the keyboard. The SFH 4716S is certified in accordance with the automotive standard AEC-Q101 and can be used in safety-related applications such as driver monitoring or seat occupancy detection systems.
Its high optical output makes it suitable for combination with external reflectors, which shape the beam so that it can be tightly focused by an additional lens.
