TRING, England, Sept. 27, 2012 — A multiple-head camera system released by Specialised Imaging Ltd., in conjunction with Image Systems AB, provides detailed 3-D analysis. The 3-D pitch, yaw and velocity solution uses the SIM Cerberus system for the study of projectile ballistics.
A dual-head SIM Cerberus system was arranged in an orthogonal setup, capturing four images of a high-speed projectile in flight. Each image (resolution 1360 × 1024 at 12 bits) was captured using a 50-ns exposure, and the separation between each image pair was 10 µs. The data was loaded into Image Systems’ TEMA software to calculate 3-D positional information, velocity, pitch and yaw.
The SIM Cerberus system can control up to 32 intensified CCD (ICCD) cameras at rates of up to 200 million fps. The ICCD in the camera head can be gated down to 5 ns and can produce up to 4000× light gain while maintaining high sensitivity. The heads can be arranged in a cluster for typical Cine Flash x-ray applications or in orthogonal stations for 3-D differential interference contrast and particle image velocimetry applications.
