TRING, England, Aug. 6, 2012 — The SIR3 camera from Specialised Imaging Ltd. is compact, lightweight and robust.
It captures 11-megapixel-resolution images and simultaneously acquires two separate full-resolution images, providing displacement and velocity data for ballistic, detonics and impact studies. Using the input from two separate sensors, the SIR3 SureShot real-time hardware enables reliable image capture of unpredictable high-speed objects. Researchers can narrow the field of view of the camera, increasing resolution.
The camera is smaller and lighter but maintains the performance of its predecessor, the SIR2. It features an optical viewfinder to ease image focus and framing while maintaining the possibility of electronic focusing using an external thin-film transistor monitor and simplified focus button. An included Nikon F-mount incorporates a manual aperture adjuster that enables use of modern lenses without manual aperture control. The camera control software is the same as for the SIR2, facilitating migration for the end user.
All imaging functions can be controlled over standard 1-Gb/s Ethernet. Comprehensive software provides simple control of imaging parameters and extensive measurement tools to analyze results. Image archiving in a variety of file formats is supported. For situations that require more complex measurements, several cameras can be operated from a single control computer with timings for all cameras linked to the same control screen.
The rigid all-metal IP54-compliant construction renders the camera suited to withstand harsh indoor and outdoor industrial and defense research environments.
