GEEL, Belgium, March 27, 2014 — The SMW-01 and SMT-01 optical sensing fibers from FBGS Technologies offer long-term structural-health monitoring and preproduction testing for large, intricate composites at multiple sensing points on a single optic line.

Suited for harsh environments, the strain sensing fibers have protective glass fiber reinforced plastic surrounding the optic, available in both tape and rod form for integration in surface, embedded and outdoor applications.

The devices are thinner and more lightweight than their electrical counterparts. Fiber length, number of sensors and connector type can be specified by the customer.
