BRIGHTON, Mich., March 29, 2011 — For use in industrial and biomedical applications, Nikon Metrology Inc. has introduced its latest stereoscopic microscope, the SMZ-745. The airtight, anti-electrostatic and anti-mold design prevents samples from being damaged by electrostatic discharge as well as by contaminants such as dust and water. This design renders it suitable for use in environments where temperature and humidity are high and solid contaminants are prevalent.

The microscope is optimized with the Greenough optical system, allowing it to reach a zoom ratio of up to 7.5×. The magnification ranges from 3.35× to 330× when combined with the auxiliary objective lens and eyepiece. It also has a total reflection prism, which results in bright, high-contrast images. Featuring a working distance of up to 115 mm and a trinocular optical head suitable for monitoring and digital imaging, the microscope is ergonomically built.

From the click-stop knob that helps mark a change in magnification to the ability to add auxiliary objective and eyepiece lenses, every facet of the microscope can be customized.

The flexible instrument is useful in production environments and in the lab. Applications include printed circuit board assembly, semiconductor fabrication, embryology/in vitro fertizilization, medical device manufacture and quality control, geology, entomology, botany, cell biology, plastics and microelectromechanical systems.

Zoom range is 0.67× to 5×, providing the user with a broad observation range. It also has an eyepiece inclination of 45° as well as an electrostatic decay time of 1000 to 10 V, in <2 s. The microscope is certified as JIS/IEC waterproof grade 1.
