A hardware solution that enables fast electromagnetic simulation of advanced semiconductor devices and of optoelectronic devices such as CMOS image sensors has been announced. It links Synopsys Inc.’s TCAD Sentaurus Device simulation software and Acceleware Corp.’s ClusterInABox Quad Q30 workstation to produce an order-of-magnitude speed-up of the finite-difference time-domain electromagnetic modeling algorithm used in Sentaurus Device. The system enables statistical analysis of the effect of manufacturing variations, such as lens misalignment, through multiple simulations. The workstation includes two dual-core processors, an 800-W power supply, a 500-GB serial hard drive and 16 GB of RAM, which can be upgraded to 32 GB.
